I'm going to go ahead and recap what happened this past week in case you missed it, what with stuffing your face with turkey, lighting your house on fire with that deep frier or just hiding out in your room until your family left.
Notre Dame v. Stanford
Is this a rivalry? Did anyone watch this game? I didn't, and I hope you didn't either.
Texas v. A&M
How did Texas lose this game you ask? Oh, yeah, they aren't very good. I still don't understand why Franchione resigned after this game, this is the sort of thing that usually earns headcoaches their jobs, not cause them to lose it. But all in all, an unimportant, though exciting, game.
Washington v. Washington St.
You don't think i watched this game do you?
Hawaii v. Boise St.
Seriously, i watched this, and if you didn't i challenge you to tell me what you were doing that was better than watching this. Great game, i was surprised. I honestly think Colt Brennan will play on Sundays, and since they beat what seemed to be a good team in Boise St., i'd like to see Hawaii in a BCS bowl. Especially if they play Ohio St. and destroy them, or play UGA and get ripped to pieces.
Arkansas v. LSU
Ok, not a rivalry, but it was the most important game of the week. LSU lost, not because they weren't prepared or didn't play well, but because Houston Nutt woke up. He finally just put Darren McFadden at quarterback, kept Felix Jones on the field and let them run roughshod over one of the best defenses in the country (wildcat formation on 60% of the plays = victory). It turns out Arkansas is going to be good next year too, Peyton Hillis is much better than i thought. Best college football game i've seen in years, and McFadden should win the Heisman. I think he might throw the ball better than Tebow, and we shouldn't punish him for his coach not figuring out the winning game plan till the last game of the season. Unfortunately there won't be an SEC team in the national championship game though, which means a team from the Big East, Big 12 or Big 11 is going to win it, and we all know how sad that is. The fact that West Virginia is probably going to be #1 on Sunday makes me a little queasy, i mean, they lost to South Florida.
WVU vs. No one
Seriously.
Duke vs. UNC
Sorry Chris, y'all went 1-11 this year, i really thought you would pull this one out, but it just wasn't in the cards. Duke lost a heartbreaker. No, i didn't actually watch this one, but part of me wanted to.
The Iron Bowl
And Nick Saban falls to the mighty Brandon Cox (who coincidentally has had 8 ints in the past two years against UGA, Reggie Ball-esque). Does anyone remember when Nick Saban compared losing a football game to 9/11? This guy is just a winner on and off the field, if Bear Bryant could see you Nick, he'd punch you.
The battle for South Carolina, the battle no one wanted to win
USC went 6-6, and 3-5 in the SEC. Yeah, the same USC team that was ranked 7th at one point. No college football doesn't make sense. Yes, i'm always happy when steve spurrier loses (he doesn't deserve to have his name capitalized). Then they go and lost to Clemson... that is the capper to a perfect USC season. How did these guys beat us again?
Florida vs. Florida St.
Earlier in the week, someone on the FSU defense said "We're going to plant Tim Tebow." The Gator defense would have said the same thing, if they knew who the FSU starting quarterback was. FSU was really bad this year, Tebow beating them doesn't show he is a better player than McFadden in my estimation. So florida beats FSU by 33, we beat florida by 12, so if we played FSU we'd beat them by 45 right?
Oklahoma vs. OK St.
Sam Bradford is really really good. Not Jason White good, but really good. The Ok St. coach is still a man though, and he's 40. Sadly, the 40 year old man's team didn't win. Now Oklahoma prepares for its match up against....
Kansas v. Missouri
Is this a rivalry? And if you have been out of the country for a few months, this game actually mattered, shocking huh? Don't think for a minute that Missouri won this game. The kansas kicker lost it. And letting a team score 28 points to get back in it in the most important game your school has played in 50 years doesn't make me confident that you are for real Missouri. Don't get me wrong, your offense is stacked, but that defense is going to get shredded in the Big12 title game. WVU #1, Missouri #2, Ohio St. #3... is this a horrible dream? Oh wait, no, Notre Dame still lost to Navy so its a good year.
Va Tech vs. UVA
And UVA gets exposed by a real team, the only real team in the ACC. That's what you get for waitlisting me you jerks.
Tennessee vs. Kentucky
Hahahhahahhahaha. Did you watch this? Remember when Andre Woodson was the best QB in college football. Don't let his stat line fool you, most of that was against a prevent defense, and with the game on the line he collapsed. Oh man, this means UT is in the SEC title game against LSU? That stinks. Oh wait, UGA is going to get a BCS at large birth. And the world is once again a wonderful place to live. Oh, and UT, good luck against that LSU team, they probably aren't mad after losing in 3 OT's to Darren McFadden and friends.
BYU vs. Utah
I'm kidding.
USC vs. ASU
USC isn't good. John David Booty isn't the next Carson Palmer. ASU is not very talented on defense and this game went as expected. Unfortunately, USC stands a good chance for a BSC at large bid, stupid plus 1 system that i love.
And the big daddy of them all.....
wait for it
wait for it
UGA 31 Ga Tech 17
Of course i was giving 15 points on this game, that was a bad plan. Tech fans are screaming about those two touchbacks i'm sure, but if your special teams players could fall on the ball then you wouldn't have to stretch those vocal chords. The good news is i don't have to worry about Lauren's family members who are Tech alums holding this game over my head for the next year. Also, how many in a row is this? And to the people who thought Knowshon is 10x the back that Thomas Brown is.... well.... you still may be right, but not in this game. Also, i'm declaring it now, i have a man crush on Brannan Southerland. Strange name aside, i really think he is the best football player in the country. Matt Stafford is living up to his hype this season, Kentucky/Tennessee games aside, and this makes me look forward to next year. Turns out Taylor Bennett is just as good of a Georgia player as Reggie Ball, give that man some dawg bones for his helmet.
